Open Land
For some reason, I have always felt at home in the towering hills of the Dark Peak area of the Peak District, as well as the fells of the Lake District and in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands. Perhaps it’s my Scottish heritage, or perhaps I just appreciate the splendour of the mountains. Vast open spaces of solitude, undeniable beauty and, of course, magical light.
More recently, since living on the edge of the Chilterns, I have come to appreciate the gentler hills spanning across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and into Berkshire. It’s a challenging place, but hugely rewarding in the right light.
