Lone Trees

Britain was once covered in forest but, over the years, much of that has been destroyed - either for agriculture, golf courses, new housing and industrial developments, or even for roads and railways. As a result, the U.K. is now one of the least wooded countries in Europe and has just 2% of its land covered by ancient woodland, which is perhaps our most important habitat. There are remnants of what may have been woodland or wood pasture many moons ago, so this portfolio is a celebration of the trees that are still standing in our landscape.
