Vying For Attention - Limited Edition Print

Most photographers would say that there’s no chance of making good landscape photographs on bright, sunny days - let alone in the middle of the day when the sun is at its harshest. I beg to differ, and this image is a testament to that. My view is that there are opportunities to make photographs in any conditions, but not all photographs work in any condition. This image was made at around midday with direct sunlight hitting the bright amber fronds on this lovely fern intensifying the contrast between it and the still-green ferns behind it. My original plan was to expose this on a low-contrast colour negative, but upon metering the scene, I realised that Fuji Velvia 100 was my best option. Known for its high contrast, it threw most of the background into darkness.
